I did a set in manila tags and one in kraft.

Supplies used:
BTW - I wanted to put a plug in for a link party Pam is doing each week called Sharing the Shelter.
An excerpt from her blog reads:
Do you ever wish you had new ideas for sheltering?  Some of us shelter with food, others with crafty gifts; some like to use words in an uplifting post, others give of of time and resources.  I'd like this to be a place for us to share sheltering ideas."
She also has fun giveaways each week ---so check it out and link up!
Here's a link to this week's party.

Another pillow for my primitive bedroom makeover.
This time a star pillow using the star pattern from here.
It looks great in the free chair one of our parishioners gave us last week!

Housewarming Gift

My nephew and his wife moved down to our area last Friday night!
(YEA I finally have some family living close by!!)
On the day they arrived we went over to help unload the u-haul and I took them a little "Housewarming Gift."
Included in the gift were:
  • a candle
  • two fall tea towels
  • a Taste of Home magazine
  • some snacks
    • to munch on while unpacking and setting up
  • some Cascade dishwasher liquid
    • we opened this and used it right away -- to wash up all the dishes packed in newspaper!
  • a jug of COLD Sweet Tea in a brand that I happen to know they really liked
    • They were grateful for this after unloading what they needed for the night -- something icy cold to drink was very refreshing!
  • paper cups
    • these came in handy for the Sweet Tea since the dishes were either still in boxes or in the dishwasher
Here's the tag I made up using the "Around the Block" stamp set from Close To My Heart.
The flower on the top is one from last Thursday's post --- it really dressed up the top of the bag!
I'm SO HAPPY to have some family living nearby!!

More Housewarming Gift Ideas

I really like this one -- but since my husband and daughter helped clean the house last week it wasn't the most practical one to give!

Flower Gift Toppers

I recently received a prize package won from Jamie at Raising Up Rubies.  She has so many wonderful ideas -- and I enjoy browsing her etsy shop - just for inspiration!  In my package was a lovely crocheted flower something like the ones she has for sale here.  I "fell in love" with my darling flower and soon set out to make some of my own. Here's the results:
These flowers are pretty simply and fast to whip up --the free pattern can be found here.
Other supplies include:
  • Yarn
  • Buttons
  • Blossom I Nestabilites
    • the large shape the flower is tied to
  • Blossom II Nestabilities
    • the smaller stamped shape
  • Old cracker/cereal boxes
    • I glued my pretty paper to the cardboard before cutting it out -- it makes a nice firm gift topper that way
  • Scraps of pretty paper
  • Studio G sentiment stamps
  • Twine
    • for tying the sentiment on
Here's a view of the back -- so you can see how I tied the flower onto the cardboard:
You can add a strip of double sided tape to stick it to your package.

Mini Promise Book

Sharing a Mini Promise Book made from toilet paper tubes....here's a great tutorial for making toilet paper albums.
I didn't actually roll my paper all the way around the tube (like in the tutorial) -- but pasted a different piece on each side.
Another way to do it is to paint your toilet paper tube before applying the paper -- like here.
The little album is going to be a book with some of my favorite verses in it....here are some pages from it:
As you can see I'm not finished adding verses to it -- some of them I'm writing in and others I'm printing off from:
Each one of those ribbon pull tabs has a little card that can be pulled out.
They are decorated with matching paper and faux stitching -- here's two I completed:

Snack Mix

Our church family was invited to a fall get together and hymn sing last week-end.
The hostess promised refreshments - so I made some snack mix to send with my husband and daughter (I didn't feel up to going).
Here's the recipe I used:
Fall Snack Mix
1 box rice chex
2 cans mixed nuts
1 small box cheddar cheez-its
1 small box white cheddar cheez-its
3 - 4 cups pretzel sticks (broken in half)
Mix this together and add this sauce:
1/3 cup oil
6 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 - 2 tsp. garlic powder
1- 2  tsp. onion powder
1- 2 tsp. season salt
Combine wet ingredients and pour over snack mix.
Mix thoroughly -- place on baking sheets
Bake @ 250 degrees for 45 minutes - stirring every 15 min.
After cool add a bag of candy corn.
Store in airtight container
ENJOY!
I included my fall scarecrow card (from this post) and a pack of pretty note cards as a hostess gift!

Quilt Cards

A friend of mine is having a birthday next week. Her request (every year) is for me to make her homemade cards as her gift.
This year I decided to make a set of Scripture Quilt Cards for her using the tutorial I found on Karen Barber's Blog.
I made two in each color scheme -- you can see I alternated the matting and the order of the star points -- also the button colors.
I kept them fairly simple so as to showcase the quilted part.
After finishing each quilt square I ran it through my Cuttlebug with an embossing folder to add texture.
A simple border (stamped in white) and a Scripture (stamped in brown) finish off the cards.
Hope she likes them!

Lamp Makeover

Here's the last of my primitive thrift store purchases that just needed a "touch of something" to complete their look.
I paid something like $2.99 for the above lamp -- and all it needed was some filler!
After telling a friend about my finds, she came up with a bag of Styrofoam beads to fill my lamp with - from the Dollar Store no less!
Here is sits on my nightstand -- with yesterday's made over lamp and one of my birthday gifts from my husband (that big willow tree)....he's awesome at picking gifts for me!
