Homemade Chalk Paint

Day Two of Makeovers for my new guest room!
Today I'm sharing a desk that I painted with
Homemade Chalk Paint
and distressed to fit the vintage/farmhouse style I'm aiming for.
(Before picture of the desk)
Here's the recipe I used for the chalk paint:

DIY Chalk Paint
2 cups latex paint (your color choice)
1/3 cup plaster of paris
2 - 3 T. warm water.
Dissolve plaster of paris in warm water, add to paint, mix well.

I gave the desk two coats and then sanded the edges
 (when the paint dried)
 for a more distressed/vintage look.
To protect my finished desk,  I used Minwax Paste Finishing Wax
I also removed the drawer pulls and painted them black.
All finished and ready for use!

Lamp Makeover

Today I'm sharing the first of several "makeover posts."
First up is this vintage milk glass lamp that I found in my nieces attic.
We recently had a room added on to
our house for use as a guest room.
It's nearing completion so it's time to find furniture and decor to fit
the vintage/farmhouse theme I have in mind.
"Shopping" my nieces attic provided several treasures including this old lamp.
I started out by painting the metal parts of the lamp white and then moved on to decorate a thrift store lamp shade with a handmade doily (FREE pattern here) and some rolled roses (made of muslin).
I love how it turned out!
It's going to fit in my new room perfectly!

Grubby Candles

I had a lot of fun making these primitive grubby candles for the Etsy shop.
Each set is wrapped in a coffee dyed paper doily and tied up with a prim fabric strip.
Stop by the shop and check out all the new things I've added lately!

Filet Crocheted Doily

This is my first time to ever do a filet crochet project and to follow a chart rather than written instructions!
I found this pattern on-line (for purchase here) and was hooked by the "quilt like look" of the stars in the center.
This doily is available for purchase in my Etsy shop, and I've already started another one in a different thread weight!

Be Thankful

Here's a framed piece perfect for fall/Thanksgiving decor that I added to the Etsy shop today.
I attached a printed canvas piece to my burlap background
A cheery polka dot ribbon is adorned with buttons and the frame is painted a distressed black.

Quilt Cards

Here's a set of quilt cards I made for the Etsy Shop.
Each card has a different sentiment stamped on the front
The hand-pieced paper quilt is accented with a coordinating button
The cards are blank inside so you can personalize according to the occasion.

Mason Jar Calendars

Since I had good luck in selling my 2015 Mason Jar Calendars, I decided to make a 2016 version for the Etsy shop.
There are four different paper designs to choose from
Each has a coffee dyed doily on the front and a raffia bow around the neck of the jar
The magnet on the back make them great for your fridge or filing cabinet.
Great for adding to a Christmas card as a small gift for someone special!
Go check them out in the shop!
