What do you find yourself praising God for? The blessings in your life? (shelter, clothing, food, health, job, vehicle, family, money, success, friends etc.) What would you do if these were taken away or maybe you're someone whose never had these things to begin with. (I often think of the persecuted church and Christians in other places who aren't as blessed with material things as those of us in more prosperous places.) Would there still be a reason to praise God? The answer is "yes!" Even if the things of this world are never yours, there is still a list of things you have in Jesus that deserve praise from a thankful heart.
In Jesus you have:
- forgiveness of sins
- adoption into God's family
- a Heavenly Father who watches over you with love and care
- mercy that says you don't have to pay for your sin
- peace in the storms of life
- a friend to walk beside you, guide you, and lead you home
- the hope of eternity with Jesus in a perfect place called Heaven
And then there are the attributes of God
- long-suffering
- patient
- kind
- wise
- strong
- faithful
- loving
- all-powerful
- holy
and my list could go on. So why not take some time to praise God for who He is and the rich gifts He's given you in the plan of salvation, and hold the temporary things of earth a little lighter today.
