Faux Cracked Glass with UTEE

It’s the second week of May, and time for another challenge here on the Cropstop blog! I’ve been enjoying playing with some new products from the Cropstop store. Today I’m sharing a mini tutorial that uses the Gelli Printing Plate, Distress Oxides, and UTEE.
To create the focal point of my card I wanted to do some layering with ink and create a collage of sorts. Here’s how I accomplished it:
Step One: Ink up your Gelli Printing Plate with Distress Oxide Ink.
Step Two: Spritz with Water from your Mini Mister
Step Three: Lay a stencil over the top (I used the Tim Holtz Watercolor Stencil)
Step Four: Lay a piece of watercolor paper over top and gently press
Step Five: Clean printing plate and ink with distress ink (I used fossilized amber)
Step Six: Mist with water
Step Seven: Use a baby wipe to pick up some of the ink
Step Eight: Lay your stenciled piece of watercolor paper over it and gently press
After I created my background, I stamped a text stamp (Distressing -Glitz Design) in the corners in Ground Espresso Distress ink and added a bird/sentiment from the Ranger set, Little Birdies (Dina Wakley) in black soot distress ink.   Next I used a thin paintbrush to splash a bit of Cracked Pistachio re-inker over the top, and distressed the edges using the Tonic Studios Paper Distresser.

I wanted to create a cracked-vintage look, so I pulled out my Versamark Watermark Ink pad and thoroughly inked my collage panel.  Next I applied the Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel to the top and heat set it. I repeated this process two more time (for a total of 3 layers) and then popped my image in the freezer for 5 minutes. When it was cold, I removed it and bent the panel to create cracks in the embossing.  Next I rubbed vintage photo distress ink over the surface and worked it into the cracks with my Tim Holtz Ink Applicator.
To complete my card, I layered my cracked panel on corrugated cardboard and die cut a doily, sentiment, and corner piece from the Sizzix Hello Doily set. (The doily was a leftover print from this post).  Three Prima flowers with pearl centers add the finishing touches.

I'd love to see how you use UTEE on your projects, so stop by the CURRENT CHALLENGE and link up! BTW- Be sure to stop by and sign up to win the goodies in this fun CROPSTOP GIVEAWAY - winner drawn May 24th.
