American Girl Valentine Party

My daughter had so much fun hosting an American Girl Valentines party last week.  She invited a special friend to bring her American Girl doll and the two of them baked cakes (In the Easy Bake oven) and decorated them, made hair barrettes for both them and their dolls, and crafted some slippers for Felicity and Kirsten to wear.
Some of the decorations and craft ideas came from the American Girl Doll Parties Book (Thank you again Pam K.!)

The "big girl" hair barrettes:
This idea came from the Doll Parties book.  In the book they used ribbons with sticky foam hearts dangling off the bottom of them. We used fibers, beads, and two crocheted hearts.  Here's a little closer view:
Here's a view of the doll barrette -- a simple crocheted heart on a little hair clip
(For instructions on making the crochet hearts see this post)
Here are the little slippers we made out of craft foam/ribbon/paper roses (there's a tutorial link for these roses on the side -- "Mini Roses") This idea also came from the AG Doll Parties book --- they used pom poms instead of flowers.

Floral Sympathy

A sympathy card for a dear friend who tragically lost his sweet wife two weeks ago.  She was a very special person who made a big impact on my life!  Wanted this to be extra special so I put extra time into it.  Not sure if you can tell in the above picture or not - but I used clear embossing powder on all the roses to make them sparkle.
Words can be so cheap in times of deep grief - I often try to think of what I would want others to say to me at a time like this.....what came to my mind this time was an old hymn of comfort-- Does Jesus Care?  I included it on the inside of the card...
