Flower Power

Autumn (from sewpaperpaint) inspired me to create some paper flowers using the tattered florals die and inks. Carol (from carolinasweetlee) inspired me to create LOTS of paper flowers in several different designs!
To create the first sets I used the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die and cut 2 each of the smallest and next to smallest flowers. I used Autumn's fun tutorial and some distress oxide inks to make these lovely blooms. I'll list the color combos under each set.

Seedless Preserves and Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide

Broken China and Peeled Paint Distress Oxide

Worn Lipstick and Wild Honey Distress Oxide

Walnut Stain and Wild Honey Distress Oxide

The next set uses the Flora Grande 2 stamp set from Heartfelt Creations.
To create this set I:
  • stamped the smallest flower from the Flora Grande 2 (Heartfelt Creations) set in tuxedo black ink on white card stock
  • inked the centers with wild honey distress oxide
  • inked the outer edges with one (or sometimes two) of these oxide colors: Worn Lipstick, Wild Honey, Broken China, Peeled Paint, Seedless Preserves
  • fussy cut each flower and snipped between each petal
  • crunched the petals together for dimension (the bottom layer is a little less pleated than the top)
  • glued one flower on top of the other for a pretty 3D embellishment

This last set also uses the Tim Holtz Tattered florals die, and also includes the Tiny Tattered Florals Thinlits dies

Here's a mini tutorial on how I made these shabby chic blooms:

  1. Glue vintage dictionary pages to a piece of 8 1/2 x 11 white cardstock - cut in half
  2.  Apply Picket Fence Distress Stain over top of one half --- heat set or let dry
  3. Die cut with Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Die
  4. Emboss with the Victoria embossing folder from Cuttlebug, pinch petals for extra dimension
  5. Apply Spiced Marmalade and Worn Lipstick distress stain to the second half of dictionary page
  6. Heat Set (or allow to dry) and apply Picket Fence Distress Stain over top - dry
  7. Die cut with the largest rose die from Tiny Tattered Florals thinlits set (Tim Holtz)
  8. Assemble roses and glue to the center of  two layer flowers.

I had a lot of fun making all my pretty blooms and now I have a nice supply of embellishments  for future cards/projects! The only bad thing is....now I want more colors of oxides (smile).
