Songs in the Night

How do you sing in the face of pain and difficulties? There is no easy answer to that question but when I'm in the valley it helps to remember that Jesus is able to "empathize with our weaknesses" (Hebrews 4:15) because He suffered rejection, knew abuse, experienced betrayal, felt physical pain, and even tasted death.  Many Christians falsely believe that if they serve God He won't let bad things come into their lives. But if our sinless Savior "learned obedience from what he suffered" (Hebrews 5:8), why do we think we're entitled to a care-free life? If we're to sing songs in the night we must hold onto the fact that for the Christian there's no such thing as purposeless pain. We tend to be more concerned with our physical comfort, but God deems our spiritual welfare of more importance. You know the old saying, "No pain, no gain" -- here's another one: "it's only when it hurts, that it helps." As Oswald Chambers said, "Troubles almost always make us look to God, but His blessings tend to divert our attention elsewhere." You see, weakness helps us feel our need of God, and causes us to depend on His grace to see us through.

This song (sung by Sheri Easter - Click here to watch on Youtube ) reminds me of Psalm 50:23, "The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;" When you're going through tough times the easy thing to do is grumble, worry, and despair; but by God's help let's determine to offer Him a "sacrifice of praise" instead.

Praise His Name

When you're up against a wall and your mountain seems so tall
And you realize that life's not always fair
You can run away and hide, let the old man decide
Or you can change your circumstances with a prayer

When everything falls apart praise His name
When you have a broken heart raise your hands and say
Lord, You're all I need, You're everything to me
And He'll take the pain away
When it seem you're all alone praise His name
When you feel you can't go on just raise your hands and say
Greater is He that is within me
And you can praise the hurt away if you'll just praise His name

Oh, you can overcome by the blood of the lamb
And by the word of your testimony
You'll see the darkness go as your faith begins to grow
You're not alone so how can you be lonely

When everything falls apart praise His name
When you have a broken heart raise your hands and say
Lord, You're all I need, You're everything to me
And He'll take the pain away
When it seem you're all alone praise His name
When you feel you can't go on just raise your hands and say
Greater is He that is within me

And you can praise the hurt away if you'll just praise His name

Amen, such a terrific song, I was moved by the songs we sang on Sunday in our virtual service, so good that we don't have to be in a building to feel the Holy Spirit move us!
Gorgeous colors in this page!
