Tea For Two

Since the Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's blog hop is going on right now, I decided to feature an old, but  beautiful digital stamp set from Graciellie Designs.  I love the elegance of this image and decided to try creating a card with somewhat of a vintage feel to it. BTW - all of Gracie's Etsy store is 50% this month, but you'd better hurry today's the last day of the sale!

To create this card I:
  • Inserted an image from the Cup of Tea digital stamp set into my word processor and changed the tones to brown
  • After printing, I colored the rose and stem with Prismacolor pencils
  • I die cut my image with Circle Nestabilities (Spellbinders) and added some faux stitching around the edge with a Sharpie marker
  • I layered my image on a coffee stained doily

Here’s how I coffee stain my paper doilies
  1. Make a dish of strong coffee using: 1/2 cup water 2 – 3 Tablespoons instant coffee
  2. Carefully dip doilies in coffee and lay on an old towel
  3. Dry using a heat gun
  4. Using a small paintbrush, brush a bit more coffee onto the center of each dry doily to create a stained look
  5. Repeat drying process
  6. Iron (without steam) to flatten

 Next I:
  • stenciled a background on cream card stock using a Recollections stencil and Frayed Burlap/Tattered Rose Distress Oxide (Ranger)
  • I inked the edges in Frayed Burlap Oxide
  • In the center I added a dark brown strip of card stock punched on both sides with the Embroidery Deep Edge Punch (Martha Stewart)
  • For the sentiment, I inserted a saying from the Cup of Tea digital stamp set into Photoscape and clicked to turn it negative - next I changed the tones to brown and printed it on pink card stock
  • the tiny crinkle ribbon bow is created from Hug Snug seam binding and Walnut Stain distress oxide
  • three tiny pink pearls (Couture Creations) finish off this tea themed card

I just love these caramel colors and your stained doilies. I often take the used coffee filters from work and rinse and dry them to die cut later. Fun stuff! Thank you so much for sharing in our Layers of Lace challenge at Frilly and Funkie. Big hugs, Autumn
